KADTS’ BALLROOM DANCE CLUB is dedicated to teaching men to become leaders by using ballroom dance as a tool.  The result of applying these tips is not only increased physical fitness but mental alertness as well.  This page is dedicated to helping men with the lead - follow technique, and basic helpful tips in the art of dance.

My military background has exposed me to many leadership techniques and it’s this veteran’s conclusion that leadership is learned and learned and learned.  When you think you’ve learned enough, look again, there is sure to be more to learn.

I professionally have been through quite a bit of leadership training, Airborne school, Ranger school, BNOC, PLDC, and IMPOC, and have, stated modestly, won leadership awards.  This really means that as a leader I realized that leadership training isn’t learned in school but from all those that are to be lead.

Example: In the military a fresh Lieutenant, straight out of the academy may have a lot of book knowledge about various wars and strategy and may also know a little about leadership.  This soldier believes he/she can take on the whole military and whip it into shape. There is however a situation that needs to be dealt with. This new leader does not know any of the troops to be lead, company policies, or the how to lead troops into battle/motor pool whatever the mission is.

The answer, further training is needed and it comes from the Platoon Sergeant, NCO, as well as the Squad Leaders all the way down to the lowest Private in the platoon.  The same is true for the Captain/Company Commander. This person must be trained to lead from the First Sergeant. If the leaders can learn to humble themselves and learn from those that would follow them, they in result become great leaders.

In the world of dance this is a humbling experience for men that must learn to lead from the very same women that they are intending to present or show off on the floor.
